How can I tell whether my Renogy controller needs the BT-1 instead of the BT-2?
Check both the communication protocol and socket in the controller documentation. BT-1 is for supported Renogy devices using RS232 through an RJ12 port; equipment labeled RS485 with an RJ45 port requires BT-2. Similar-looking sockets are not enough to establish compatibility.
What can the BT-1 change or display through the Renogy DC Home app?
On a supported charge controller, the BT-1 sends operating data to the DC Home app and allows supported settings to be adjusted from a phone or tablet. The available readings and editable parameters come from the connected controller, so they vary by controller model and firmware.
Can I check a remote cabin's BT-1 data over the internet from home?
No. BT-1 is a local Bluetooth connection, not a Wi-Fi or cellular gateway. Renogy publishes a maximum signal range of up to 82 ft, and walls, metal compartments, vehicle construction, and radio interference can reduce the usable distance.
Does the Renogy BT-1 need a separate power cable or battery connection?
No separate supply is listed. The module receives 5V power through the compatible controller's RJ12 communication port. Route its attached cable without sharp bends or strain, and keep the IP54 module away from immersion and direct weather exposure.
