Is the Renogy BT-2 G2 compatible with every product that has an Ethernet-shaped socket?
No. The connected Renogy device must specifically support RS485 communication through its RJ45 port and list BT-2 compatibility. RJ45 describes the connector shape, not the protocol or pinout, so never plug it into ordinary Ethernet equipment or assume a matching socket is safe.
Why would I order a BT-2 rather than a BT-1 for Renogy monitoring?
Choose BT-2 for supported Renogy equipment with the RS485 protocol and RJ45 port; the older-style module is for supported charge controllers using RS232 and RJ12. Their communication hardware is not interchangeable, so verify the exact device model and protocol before ordering.
Can the BT-2 G2 show historical data as well as live system readings?
Yes. Through Renogy's DC Home app, the BT-2 can expose real-time and historical information and supported configuration or diagnostic controls from the connected device. The precise data fields and controls depend on that device's model and firmware.
Will the BT-2 let me monitor an off-grid installation when I am away from the property?
Not by itself. It creates a local Bluetooth connection with a published range up to 82 ft; walls, metal enclosures, and interference can shorten that distance. Remote internet access requires a separate supported gateway and network arrangement.
Does this BT-2 package include a communication hub for several Renogy devices?
No. Renogy lists one BT-2 module in the package. A Communication Hub is a separate product used when multiple compatible RS485/RJ45 devices need to share one BT-2; the connected equipment and phone are also separate.
