Is the RMS-LFPS screen a universal monitor for any LiFePO4 battery? No. It is designed for Renogy's compatible Smart Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery Series and reads data directly from that battery BMS through RJ45/RS485. A generic lithium battery without the supported Renogy communication system will not become compatible simply because its voltage matches. Do older Renogy Smart Lithium batteries have a compatibility risk with this display? Yes. Renogy notes a small chance of compatibility trouble when the connected bank contains one or more Smart Lithium batteries purchased before April 15 2020. Confirm the battery generation with Renogy before ordering the screen for an older bank. Which battery details does the Smart Lithium monitoring screen show without a shunt? It reads the compatible battery BMS to show voltage, current, capacity, state of charge, remaining time, self-heating status, and the number of paralleled batteries. It can also display nine warning codes for recognized battery conditions. Can the Renogy Smart Lithium display place the battery bank into shelf mode? Yes. Shelf mode is one of the screen's published functions for a supported Renogy Smart Lithium bank. Use it according to the battery and monitor manuals; it is a storage-control function, not a replacement for safe isolation during wiring or service. Does the RMS-LFPS package require a separate 500A shunt and signal cable? No external shunt is required because the screen receives operating data from the battery BMS. Renogy lists the monitor and its RJ45 communication connection for this application; battery power cables, overcurrent protection, and the compatible Smart Lithium battery remain separate.
