What does the Victron SmartShunt 500A/50mV IP65 measure?
It measures battery current and voltage, then calculates amp-hours, state of charge, time remaining, historical data, and alarms in the VictronConnect app.
Does the SmartShunt include a display?
No physical display is included. Readings are viewed through Bluetooth in the VictronConnect app or through a connected GX system using the VE.Direct port.
What battery systems can it monitor?
Its supply range is 6.5V to 70V DC, and battery capacity can be configured from 1Ah to 9,999Ah. The shunt rating is 500A at 50mV.
What can the auxiliary input monitor?
It can be configured for the voltage of a second battery, battery-bank midpoint voltage, or temperature when the optional Victron temperature sensor is installed.
Is the SmartShunt 500A/50mV IP65 weather resistant?
Yes, the potted unit is rated IP65. The complete installation, cable entries, terminals, and connected equipment still need appropriate environmental protection.
Does every DC load and charger need to pass through the shunt?
Yes. For an accurate state-of-charge calculation, all current entering or leaving the monitored battery bank must pass through the system side of the shunt, with only the battery connection on the battery side.
